Notes So proud of this guy! The goal was to make a lingerie bag that would let me keep clean and dirty undies separated so I wouldn't have to keep track when on vacation. Knew what I wanted, didn't find any free patterns that were exactly what I was looking for, and came up with this one. I definitely didn't make it in the easiest or neatest way, but it worked out exactly the way I hoped it would, and I love my fabric/zipper choice. Notes below: Necessities: Exterior/Lining: 2 pieces each, 8.25 x 13.75" (I pieced the front part of my exterior to have a little fun) Zipper tabs: 2 pieces, 2x4, pressed into double fold bias tape, cut down to 2x2 Two seven inch zippers. Construction: 1. Trim zipper tape to pull and metal end. Enclose ends in zipper tabs, top stitch down 2. Place one lining piece right side up, zipper right side up lined up and centered at top, and exterior right side down. Sew with zipper foot, flip pieces out and top stitch away from zipper (make sure your exterior/interior are lined up! Repeat this on the other end of the same exterior/lining pieces, making sure your zippers go the same direction (or don't, whatever. I don't know your life). After this, you'll have an exterior and lining sewed on both ends to a zipper, and both zippers will have one side (preferably the same side) unsewn. 3. Repeat step two with the other side of the zipper. Things get weird, so make sure things stay lined up, and that you sew the right things to the right sides. 4. This is where my lack of planning came back to bite me. You now have a bag with zippers on either end that has long open sides. The trick is sewing both the lining and the exterior such that no raw edges are sewing. I chose to do the exterior seam first, with the intent of handsewing the lining seams, because the first two seams are straightforward and I wanted to make sure my exterior seams looked really good. Make sure your exterior pieces are right sides together, then pin the lining away from the edges and sew down with as much of a 1/4" seam allowance as you can get on both sides. Tada, exterior. 5. Unzip both ends and pull the bag through so the lining is on the outside, right sides together. I decided to just machine sew the lining because it's an undie bag for me, and I didn't mind that the inner seams weren't perfect. Again, pin the exterior pieces out of the way, and then press the lining sides in by an 1/8 to a 1/4, whatever you can get. I ended up having to rip a couple stitches from my zipper topstitching to free up some space on the ends. Sew your seams across your folded edges as best as you can, and then flip the bag back through and press. 6. Last step is to mark the mid point of the bag between the zippers and sew a seam to separate the clean and dirty sides. The one thing I haven't done yet is mark the pouches to indicate which one is dirty and which one is clean because I don't know exactly how I want to do it. I'll probably just iron letters on somewhere. Also, I need to add a snap to the inside to hold the two pouches together when it's all folded on itself.
