Import Projects? 21 posts, 4 writers, 41 readers, started 103 months ago

It's no secret there's been a lot of digital nomads in recent history as sewing websites have dissolved, collapsed, or just plain disappeared. I'm so tired of moving my projects from one site to another. I have lots of projects and I just want them to have a permanent home. Is there some way you could do a batch importer? Please? Help a sister out? I'll help code it if necessary...

Oy, that depends on the website I'd say and if they have any open API or something?

Could you give me some examples?

I'd say, if that's Flick-ered, we can do the pictures import, and if there's an excel (or csv) then we can do a mass upload, but the patterns probably won't connect automatically.

Oh, I have no patterns for most of these anyway. I'm a quilter, so patterns are a loose concept in my world. And I'd be happy to stitch things up (ha! get it!?) by hand post-import. If you tell me what to make my csv look like, I'll make it happen. I'm just so tired of clicking through UIs for my projects. I'm a content management systems/database nerd professionally, so forgive me for the complicated request - I drive my engineers at work crazy, too!

(sorry - this should have gone in your request thread!)

Oh! Also, I'd be happy to send you a file to play with. Just point me at an email address. There was a JSON export from Threadbias that I started with, but at this point, I could turn it into whatever you like.

Ah, okay, sure, send me the file. The guys would love it in csv I guess, that's the most straightforward way.

For now we have the following fields:

Name
Date started
Date finished
Happiness (1-5)
Notes (one field)
Public/private
And then the photos, I am not sure how to do those.... maybe a list of direct links to the images elsewhere?

Just talked to the guys, they say you don't need to convert to anything, json is absolutely fine :)

Yes, we can import Threadbias projects in JSON format, especially that they closed the service and we are not playing in someone's else field :)

I'll have the guys look into the file and probably some time next week we can have it live :)

I often work with self drafted patterns, could you tell me how I can upload projects using those?
Thank you

And we just added it :) Now you can click the link Add a project right on the Projects page and select "Improvised Design" or "Pattern not yet on Sewist"

We shall keep an eye on the latter ones and will try adding the listings accordingly.

Hope this helps!

Is there a limit on how many pictures we can upload?

I tried uploading photos from my Mac, no joy either :-(
Then I tries one by one, still only a little square with a question mark.

Hi Manuela- hopefully Natalia will be online to help you. I just entered a quick project and uploaded a picture from my Mac with no problems. I'm using Chrome as my browser. Maybe the browser makes a difference. If there's anything you want me to check in my settings that might help you get it figured out, let me know.

Thanks Elephun, hmm, I'm on Safari, not keen on changing to Chrome... I'm one of the few people left without a Google account  ;-)

Manuela- I can't promise that Chrome will work, but you might want to give it a shot if you want to post pictures of your beautiful coat right away. I just tried Safari and Firefox, and I wasn't able to upload pictures using either browser. I wonder if you can use Chrome without actually having a Google account, by just bypassing the sign-in page?
See you around!

Natalia- I just tried to post pictures using Safari (version 9.0) and wasn't able to, either. I then tried Firefox (version 41.0.2), and wasn't able to load pictures using it, either. I'm not sure if this is a larger problem, but you may want to check into it.

Fixed - there was a specific file extension that got blocked. We recovered the uploaded photos, and they can now be seen in your projects :)
