Is there even a difference between forums and groups, in terms of functionality? The forums are self-explanatory, but the groups currently are just serving as a roundabout way to access the forum discussions. The content overlaps, so it feels pretty redundant to have them both up in the menu as separate categories. It seems like the links to join or the links to see more group detail could be included with the forum for each group, as opposed to being in a whole different part of the site.

Or is there something special being planned to make them distinct?

Hi and thanks for the question :)

We are planning increased functionality for groups, including sharing projects/patterns/stash to the group. probably sharing sewalongs and libraries.

Each group will still have a separate forum, and there will be a number of forums that are general, and they are now on the second tab as Sewist forums.

Hope this helps!

I think it would be less complicated, when all forums from the sewist team would be behind the one tab and all other groups behind the other. It makes me search around everytime, when I try to find something from the "main boards"

Want to say, if "help sewist get better" and "sewist ticket" would be on the second tab, it would be more clear to my. And why are there two fabracadabra-Forums?

Yes, I guess we will move those two, but keep them as groups anyway.

As for Fabracadabra, there turned out to be a group with the same name, I guess we'll rename the Sewist forum to Fabrics or Fabric Chat :)

Just a short update:

We changed the forums view, and if you are in a forum that belongs to a group, you can always get back to the group by clicking its avatar in top right corner.

We shall probably divide the forum index page into All Groups / My Groups / General Forums / Sewist Forums, but I'd love to hear more feedback re this :)

We have revised the tabs on forums, hope they are less confusing now :)

We might also add division by languages in the future, so that the users who speak languages other than English may quickly navigate to groups that have marked their language as one of the spoken ones.

When I click on the Forums tab now, this is what I get:
failed to execute the SQL statement: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ')' at line 1
The forums seem to be gone :-(

There are now 3 pages of groups, whch is not very intuitive. Can we have the forums back and all the groups on one page please?

Hi, thanks for the comment :)

There are only several general forums that are on the first tab now. All other forums are within groups.

We have been asked to move out the Sewist-only stuff on a separate tab as it makes it easier to report bugs etc. As for My groups vs All groups, I believe this will help alot when there are many groups on Sewist so that you don't have to read through everyone's notes to get to what is really of interest :)
