    I love the details on this coat - the buttoned pockets and the shoulder patches, the back too. Did you base this on a pattern of your own? It looks really smart.

    Mandy, yes, I used a coat blocl pattern I made many years ago. I find it liberating to have a fitting base pattern I can amend to whatever I want to sew. All three coats I posted are made using the same block.

    A block is a very basic pattern (here a basic coat pattern) that fits you well. It can then be adapted into many different styles (signle breasted, double breasted, different collars/lengths/seamlines, etc.) I made coat, dress, blouse and skirt patterns for me according to my measurements. Still have to do a trousers pattern, but apart from jeans I hardly wear trousers.
