Notes An annual challenge by Contemporary Quilt (a special interest group of The Quilters' Guild of the British Isles). This year the challenge is to make twelve small quilts, each A4 (8.125" x 11.5") portrait, at a rate of one a month. The first four to have a small square of purple visible. The next four to have a small (1" square) piece of green and the last four to have a small square of orange. Yes, I am woefully behind on posting the first two. We do not send them in the post, but post them online to a Yahoo group owned by the group. There will be an opportunity to exhibit these next year. A selection of the 2015 JQs are currently travelling with the ICHF shows around the UK. The only selection being that the quilts shown have been offered for exhibition by their makers - usually only two per maker are collected to be shown. The photo shows January and February in the process of overprinting. January to April Calico fabric printed using a gelliplate and then overprinted using my own blocks. The design is based on small leaves. Each quilt has three small squares of purple, and is free machine embroidered using a further leaf design. I have used Pellon 987F fusible fleece.

20th May 2016 - the photos are being shown in reverse order, starting with May. This starts a new sequence using a flower design. The first four all used a leaf design as the free machined pattern overlying the quilts.

May to August - calico printed using a gelliplate and then overprinted using my own blocks. The design this time is based on the blossom seen on the trees. The quilt is then free machined using an all-over blossom design. The three squares are green, using scraps of my own dyed fabrics.

28th August 2016 - I am just about ready to start working on the last four of this sequence, September to December. I also need to work on a way to display these since I plan to show them at the Pinfold Textile group exhibition in October.

28th October 2016 - the last four journal quilts are now completed. The theme this time has berries. The squares are orange. The twelve quilts were pinned together for the exhibition. The last photo shows all twelve as they appeared.
