Notes The pages came about as part of a Chinese Whispers Challenge from Pinfold, a textile group. The idea behind this is for each member of the group to find a photograph. This becomes the theme for that person's pages. That person then makes an A5 textile "page" based on their photograph.
Mine was based on a beautiful dragon carving I saw in a temple in Hong Kong. I then passed the textile page on to the next person in my group. I was careful not to let her see my original photo. The pages were passed on inside envelopes so that the contents could not be seen by anyone else. Anita was the person I passed my first page to. She designed and made her own interpretation of my textile page. My page was then returned to me whilst she passed her interpretation on to Meryl, the next person in the group. Meryl then made her own interpretation of Anita's piece. Once finished, she passed Anita's piece on to me whilst passing her own interpretation on to the next person in the group. This was Glenice. Glenice made her own interpretation of Meryl's piece which she then passed on to Minnie. Minnie was the last person in this sequence. She made her interpretation of Glenice's piece and passed both her piece and Glenice's interpretation back to me.
It was at this last meeting, which took place in June, when all the pieces were shown to everyone taking part.
I have described one sequence, but at each step, each person was working on someone else's piece. We had each started our own theme. So I worked on pieces for each of the other members in our sequence. In all there were three such groups going round in Pinfold. Great fun was had by all, and a lot of laughter once the difference sequences of textile pages were shown.
As you can see, my own morphed from a Dragon image into a scene from a circus!
It is fascinating to see what different techniques each person uses.

8th August - each page has been bondawebbed to a piece of pelmet vilene - a stiff interfacing mostly used in making textile books or boxes. This has been backed with some of my own dyed fabric. Next, each page is edged with cord using a machine zigzag stitch. The next stage will be to use beads to make a simple hinge between each page. This will form a concertina book. Hopefully.
