Notes 11th March: Finally got the fabrics all together. I'm dreadfully late in starting this, but I shall get it done anyway. It should have been completed as part of the Serger group's serge-a-long in January!Next, to go and get the Overlocker threaded.12th March: Got my overlocker threaded on the second attempt - I must be improving......... Now got the first block completed. Finished size is 12.25" X 12.25". Sadly, the photo doesn't look square. The photos are the correct colour, so this one is going to be quite bright. I shall be alternating the bright yellow with a gorgeous chocolatey-brown.The blocks will be serged together using a narrower strip of cotton. This will then be handstitched down. That way most of the sewing will be completed using my overlocker.15th March: Have already completed eight blocks, with four more cut and ready to serge. I shall need an extra four blocks to make a reasonably sized quilt. I haven't decided whether to have brown or yellow sashing. Brown may be better, then I can could use a darker sashing............ decisions, decisions.16th March: Completed all 12 blocks I had cut out. Now need to spend some time cutting out four more. Hopefully I should be able to get started with this today.17th March: The last four blocks are cut out and ready to be sewn this afternoon.18th March: All sixteen blocks are now completed, ready to be trimmed and the sashing to be added.20th March: The sashing has been added to three strips of four blocks, these have then had the handstitching completed too. Just four more blocks to link together in this way. Then the sashing between the strips of blocks will need to be completed. Hopefully, I might be able to get that done today.28th March: I didn't manage to get the next stage done until yesterday. Now I have two long strips joined and awaiting handstitching. The last strip of four is also complete and awaiting the handstitching before it can be added. The handstitching is the only thing holding everything else up at the moment.3rd March: All the strips have now been serged together. Just two strips of handstitching to complete, then I can get on with adding the borders. I shall be adding a four inch border all round the quilt before adding the binding. At the moment I am considering doing some FME embellishment on the border. This would be the only part sewn on a standard sewing machine, and I do like some FME on each of my quilts.25th April: After quite a long lay-off, the quilt is under way once more. The borders are complete and serged in place and the quilting has started. This may take a while since the quilt is now quite bulky. It will be worth while though.28th April: I've added a couple of photos to give an idea of the quilting. The short sashing strips all have leaves, the long sashing strips have flowers as well as leaves. I haven't decided on the border quilting yet, but will be completing this after I have added the binding. This will stabilise the area ready for quilting.29th April: Decided against adding the binding before quilting. Instead, serged the edge of the border. FME now started on the border. I'm using a flower with a double edge and leaf design. Photos to follow. I have a couple of places where I haven't been very accurate with the stitching, so will have to handstitch. Too complex to be able to unpick the blocks affected and restitch. One of the problems with stitch-as-you-go. I'll have to remember to be more careful in checking each block another time.1st May: The new photo shows the actual colours of the back of the quilt and gives details of the quilting. The border just needs finishing - I ran out of thread on Friday! I should be able to finish it later today. Then on to the binding.6th May: Finally got the last of the binding sewn in place last night. My dear husband then snuggled into it when he got home late last night............ It will get used.Note - the group referred to was one on the My Sewing Circle site.
