Terms and Conditions of Providing Made to Measure Sewing Pattern Drafting Service

Individually commissioned sewing patterns


Sewist is different from other sewing pattern shops as there are no ready files waiting for being downloaded. Each order represents an individual request for customized pattern drafting service, and our specialists can only process an order once we receive individual size measurements. The patterns are made by experienced pattern designers using our proprietary software, and then they are sent to you by our staff. An order is typically processed within an hour, or in 1 working day at the latest. A copy of the pattern will be placed on our server for your future reference.

Sewing instructions


All sewing instructions are available for download free of charge BEFORE the purchase. It is recommended to read the instructions before placing an order to make sure you are comfortable with them. Our specialists will be happy to help you if you face a particular problem when sewing, provide more explanations and diagrams, however we do not provide videos on the sewing process.


Placing an order for sewing pattern drafting service


To process an order for made to measure sewing pattern drafting service, we would need your custom measurements (typically height, bust girth, waist girth and hip girth) or the standard size in which you would like to receive the sewing pattern.

Payment can be done individually, or for a package of orders. If you purchase a package, a corresponding number of credits, named Sewcoins, is added to your account. Sewist.com will maintain the list of the orders received by the buyer. Resizing of a sewing pattern, i.e. each new sewing pattern for printout, is considered a new order.


Pattern drafting service


Orders for custom sewing pattern drafting service that are placed via the Mix-and-Match Interface


The sewing patterns are processed by our staff according to the industry standards and the unique technologies of custom pattern making developed over the years. This allows you to obtain a sewing pattern that was designed specifically for your body type and that was verified by experienced designers. These sewing patterns fit better than those from any magazine or digital sewing patterns in standard sizes, as we take into account your height and your individual size measurements.

  • Our Mix-and-Match interface lets you form a detailed request for pattern drafting service, by mentioning the ease and the style elements of the future garment. Our staff processes your order based on these order details, and your preferences on the format and the pattern blocks layout.
  • Our pattern designers receive your request and develop an individual report of the size measurements that are corresponding to the size you have submitted.
  • They then develop a custom sewing pattern for the garment you have selected, by drafting individual sewing pattern blocks according to your size measurements, preparing an economical layout of these individual sewing pattern blocks, and making a digital copy of the sewing pattern in your selected printing format.
  • The pattern is sent to you by our staff at the email address that you mentioned when placing your order. A copy of the sewing pattern is uploaded onto our server and is made accessible to you for future reference.
  • Any change of the garment style, the individual size, the sewing pattern details, or the printing format constitutes a NEW order and should be processed and paid for separately.

    • Please make sure to send us a message if you have any special requirements regarding your sewing pattern, before processing the payment.


    Free previews of sewing patterns requested via the Mix-and-Match Interface


    The free previews of the sewing patterns are processed automatically. This means that our staff is not monitoring these orders and is not executing manual control of these files.

    The format of these files is not the same as a full sewing pattern. The preview of a sewing pattern will not include texts, darts, marks, seam allowances, and the suggested layout of the sewing pattern pieces for printing. The files cannot be used for printing out and sewing garments, but they do allow to understand the general look of the future sewing pattern.

    If you believe that some specific adaptation should be made, our specialists will be happy to adapt your sewing pattern once you place a paid order for the sewing pattern drafting service, by changing the shape of the pattern blocks, adding specific pattern blocks, modifying instructions, taking into account the specific combination of size measurements, etc.


    Note on the patterns that you design using the free Sewist CAD software


    The free sewing patterns that you design yourself are processed automatically. Our staff takes no part in designing these sewing patterns and thus cannot be held responsible for potential errors.


    Information on delivery


    With each order, the buyer will receive:

  • Technical drawing of a garment
  • List of the parts to be cut from various types of fabrics, and the required number of the parts
  • Complete step-by-step sewing instructions in English
  • A sewing pattern prepared by our staff with layout overview and real-size parts on several pages. You may need to cut out the parts and glue them together for cutout

    • Some listings also include:

    • Photo or a photo-realistic drawing of a garment
    • Recommendations on the choice of fabric
    • List of the extra accessories required

    The sewing pattern can be provided as .PDF file in A4, A3, A2, A1, A0, Letter, Legal, Tabloid; Universal A4/Letter, ARCH A,B,C,D,E,E1, ANSI A,B,C,D,E.

    No paper printouts will be mailed. The services are for providing sewing pattern drafting service only.

    The sewing pattern is provided 'as is'.
    For all sewing patterns, there is a possibility to order a free preview BEFORE a paid order. We highly encourage to get a free preview to make sure that the sewing pattern drafting service is completed without errors. The previews are provided on 10x10 cm grid, so you may make an estimation if the fit is right and the width and the length of the fabric is correct.
    It is always a good idea (with our sewing patterns, and with other sewing patterns as well) to make a test garment in cheap fabric first, and if this is not available, at least place a cut out sewing pattern to your body to estimate the size.
    Please remember that the actual fitform of a clothes sewed depends on the material chosen and sewing skills, and cannot be considered a reason for refund.

    Note on size:
    The sewing patterns cannot be processed without exact measurements.

    Note on fitting:
    The sewing patterns may be for stretchy or not stretchy fabric and consequently they may have different fitform. Before purchase, you may get a free preview of any sewing pattern on our website on 10x10cm (4"x4") grid and see if it looks right.

    Note on seam allowances:
    By default seam allowances are included.

    Note on fabric amount:
    Your sewing pattern does not include the amount of fabric required. As the width of the fabric can be different, the fabric may have specific sewing pattern and the design on fabric may have direction, we suggest you use the free online tool to calculate the length of fabric required.

    NOTE ON LICENSE TO PRODUCE GARMENTS

    You can use the sewing patterns ordered via our Mix and Match Online Designer to sew garments and sell them to your clientele. You cannot resell the sewing patterns though, as this is the intellectual property of Sewist.

    All content included as part of the service, such as technical drawings, sewing patterns, logos, images, texts, instructions, as well as the compilation thereof, and any software used on the website, is the property of Sewist GmbH and is protected by copyright and other laws that protect intellectual property and proprietary rights. You will not modify, publish, transmit, reverse engineer, participate in the transfer or sale, create derivative works, or in any way exploit any of the content, in whole or in part, found on the website or any of the resources available for download from the website.

    The Company content is not for resale. Your use of the Website or any of the resources available for download from the Website does not entitle you to make any unauthorized use of any protected content, and in particular you will not delete or alter any proprietary rights or attribution notices in any content. You agree that you do not acquire any ownership rights in any protected content. We do not grant you any licenses, express or implied, to the intellectual property of the Company or our licensors except as expressly authorized by these Terms.
