That's a great idea!

For fabric types and fiber content we can do an internal "dictionary", as we anyway have this in the database, and it will only take us to add descriptions.

For sewing terms and techniques this is something that looks like a wiki to me, but we'd need volunteer editors to make it live :)

The problem with that is that some knit fabrics also contain spandex. I really think that stretch woven needs to be a distinct category.

Okay, let's vote for it probably? It is just that we shall be distributing it to all areas, like pattern fabrics, and while I appreciate the idea of a very exact database, making it very comprehensive might become an obstacle in itself.

We now have degrees of stretchiness - woven, light stretch, medium stretch, high stretch.

Then we have fabric types, knit being one of them. Fabric types is rather about the way they are woven/knitted, so probably we just need some extra fabric types? Like denim with elastane or something like that?

In my own lexicon, stretch wovens are woven fabrics that contain elastine/Lycra/similar, so I group them as a subcategory of woven fabrics. Knits, OTOH, are another fabric type completely since the basic manufacture of the fabric is different from the woven fabrics (knitting machines vs looms). I think that's a de facto standard.

Is there a way to view all the members? I can see the newest members, but I'm curious to see who else might be on here, so I can send a friend request. -Thanks!

We are working on a convenient search, including crafts mentioned in profile and location, it should be live soon. :)

Yes, we have it on the list :)

I opened a special group to keep track on requests - it is Sewist Tickets. That's one of the top ones we'll be working on :)

Two other points (yeeees I have many ideas :D) - first it would be great to get shown the last page of a thread, or the last read post when opening it, and second a notification for replys would be great.

(and know I try to be silent and don't find another "good" idea ^^)

No no no, please do not be silent :) We long for ideas! :)

I think now you automatically jump to the last unread post, if you've ever read the thread, or beginning of the thread if it hasn't been read. Should it be the end of the thread?

Notification for replies on my posts is something I am bugging with the guys myself! I'll add it to the Sewist Tickets immediately.

I only jump to the last unread post, when I use the highlighted number of new posts. When there is no new post, I only can get to the first side of the thread. But thats ok, didn saw the new-posts-link :)

I understand keeping the search options to what they are for now, and waiting to see what is truly needed. I think you are asking the right kinds of questions in order to make thoughtful decisions so the site functions really smoothly.

This makes sense to me. Hurray for consistent databases and keeping one set of data!
I'll give it a try

Another thing, I love how the site looks on the computer screen, but navigating the forums on my iPhone is a bit annoying - between each post there's a big box with the poster's picture which makes reading the thread a bit disjointed, and means a lot of scrolling. It's similar on the main forum pages - above each group of topics is a big box with 4 lines of text (saying Topic, Activity, Unread and Posts, which is in one line on the computer site) and for each topic again there are four lines of text so, again, a lot of scrolling.
Sorry to be picky! ;)

Thanks, we'll fix it! This is what happens when you decide to use an innovative web style idea that doesn't believe tables exist :)

Can we somehow link stashes to projects?

Yes, that's in plans, but do we need to somehow decrease the quantity of stash? Like - I used 2 yards of that stash, I had 4 yards and I have 2 yards left? I just think that if you cut a piece of fabric, you are destined to have an uneven edge, so the straightforward math doesn't work for me here....

I think at first it is enough to link it without quantity. And with - left full width in yards/meters? And additional opton "Leftovers" without exact quantity?

Yeah, that one we can code easily if you are fine with the idea that your stash leftovers won't be exactly correct at the start and you'll have to edit it manually? :) Well, probably in the same form on the project when adding stash.

Can you give me an indication of threads I have posted in where someone has replied to me? I know there's an option to send me a message when that happens, but I'd like to be able to see on my forum view which threads have replies.

Yes, we are going to have something like that.

I am looking at the forums myself, and I personally would like to be able to pin certain topics, star certain posts and see replies to my posts.

I am going to talk to the IT guys re this, and if you have any further ideas on how we can improve our forums, please let me know )))

Hi Natalia! Just to test how to actually do this, I opened up 4320 Dress With Decorative Collar by Lekala in the Pattern area, but I didn't see a way to add Bootstrap as another source. Here's the info from Bootstrap on the pattern: 43209 Made To Measure Sewing Patterns - Origami Neckline Sheath. And here's the URL: http://patterns.bootstrapfashion.com/sewing-patterns/women/dresses/fashion-designer-sewing-patterns-origami-neckline-sheath.html#.VjqPwq6rRsM
Let me know what you think the best way to add this as a source would be when you get a chance to give it some thought. I know this is kind of a unique situation because both companies use the same technology, but at the same time, you don't want duplicate data.
Thanks!

Hi, I believe the problem with editing pattern we are having here is that we attempt to limit access to some vital parts of the pattern, so editing is allowed for the brand or the Sewist member who is the author of the design.

We are now looking into the options we can provide for the rest of community, such as adding a source, editing tags, and probably categories, and adding a language to those patterns that are issued in magazines, as some brands may add languages to their next issues which we might be unable to keep an eye on ourselves.

I believe we shall just add another editing form that would allow limited modifications to a pattern listed.

Someone also mentioned adding errata, and I am now considering if that's something that should be a separate thing as well, besides the comments :)
